We had a great time. The sailing was incredible. Amazing people. Awen is an incredible boat.

Great team, unfortunately the trip lost a professional crew member before the end. The response from the owner (David) was no assistance other than "claim it on travel insurance". Yacht (Silver Fern) had multiple issues - Windlass and generator not working, multiple sheets required repairs, toilet broke, suspected bed lice in one of the cabins. Although the professional crew acted well and cared for us well, I would NOT recommend travelling with Ocean Sailing Expeditions. Find a more professional supplier in another area even if you have to pay 50% more.

Hi Mark I am sorry about the sad end to an otherwise great trip. Silver Fern has had a hammering going across the Pacific and back this year and its been a lesson in how difficult it is to get parts and help in remote locations. We had an unexpected crew issue as well and if I was not away at my daughters wedding I would have flown directly to Tonga. In the end I decided that it was more important to deliver the vessel to Southport for repairs, than to push onto Fiji and the Vanuatu with the current issues. We have sailed 100,000nm with Silver Fern in the past 5 years and it has largely been trouble free (after $1.6m of investment in the yacht and upgrades). The engine, solar, wind and hydro all help charge batteries. Yes the generator is great to have, but its not the only charging source. We have 2 toilets on board, so there is always a back up. I don't know how the windlass was damaged. Most likely from not using a snubber or from not motoring up on it when lifting it in strong current or wind. Its frustrating for me as its good quality equipment and probably $50k -$60 to repair / replace it all. We have sailed 1.9 million customer miles since 2020 and most of our reviews are excellent. I am sorry we let you down on this passage. The reason no other companies are licensed to do what do, across oceans is that its expensive and difficult to do 24/7. When we are close to main ports, parts and repairs are straight forwards. Sailing to more remote locations (which our customers want is to do) bring risks and challenges as well. We learn from these events and always aim to improve. David

Great 11 days of exhilarating sailing and racing, great company and lot's of fun during the Race Week on Hamilton Island. We could not replicate the 2024 result with S/Y Awen due to lack of wind but nevertheless had a great time amongst the other 160+ yachts. If you never raced with the big boys, Hamilton Island Race Week will definitely give anyone a good taste of racing on a fast yacht.

I enjoyed the sailing and the challenge to be a navigator. Thank you. The two skipper approaches were different and this was helpful in testing the boats potential. We did best with the longer course and sailing in longer passage races and events I think suit this boat better than short courses. I agree that is a great area to sail with the islands being the buoys. the unit we hired was excellent and Annette and I enjoyed the hosting and our flatmates. Thank you

I am a real novice yachtsman, seriously. But I was welcomed into the crew environment and claimed my spot on a grinder and sheets. The race week was such fun, on and off the water. Found a nice airbnb to stay at the end of each day in Airlie Beach. A great bunch of race folk, and a wonderfully fun town to spend 10 days at. Awen, the yacht, is a rocket ship. We did well getting 3rd overall, as its not an easy task getting that yacht to turn corners. Great when the course and wind favours its design advantages (22kts) Overall good fun.
